# Enrollment & Publishing

**Who this is for:** Super Admins, Admins, and Staff with the Enrollment Management permission

Two things have to happen before a learner can take your course: the course has to be available, and the learner has to be enrolled in it. This section covers both.

## The two routes into a course
**You enrol them.** From the course’s Enrollments page, you add learners directly. Use this for cohorts, corporate clients, and anyone you’re onboarding deliberately.

**They enrol themselves.** The course appears in your catalogue and learners enrol or buy it. Use this for open courses and anything you sell.

Both can run on the same course.

## What controls availability

| **Setting** | **Where** | **What it does** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Publish status** | Course Settings > Visibility & Access | Whether the course appears in the catalogue |
| **Invite only** | Course Settings > Visibility & Access | Whether learners can enrol themselves |
| **Mode & Pricing** | Course Settings | Which enrolment modes exist, and what they cost |

**Note:** A course needs at least one enrolment mode before anyone can enrol, whatever its publish status.
